The trail starts in dense rainforest and follows a steep, narrow path beneath giant trees covered with moss. The forest is rich in birdlife and unique vegetation, creating a beautiful and adventurous start to your climb. The route gains altitude quickly, making it one of the most direct approaches on Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival at Umbwe Camp, your crew will prepare a hot meal and set up camp for the night.

Today's hike continues through the upper rainforest before entering the moorland zone. As you gain elevation, the vegetation becomes smaller and the views begin to open up. The trail traverses ridges and valleys with spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the Southern Ice Fields. You will eventually descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, one of the most beautiful areas on Mount Kilimanjaro. After breakfast, you will tackle the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the climb. Although steep, it is a non-technical climb that rewards you with breathtaking views of glaciers, valleys, and surrounding peaks. After reaching the top, the trail continues through alpine terrain and rolling ridges before arriving at Karanga Camp. This shorter trekking day helps with acclimatization while allowing you to conserve energy for the summit push ahead.

Altitude: 3,960m – 4,035m
Hiking distance: Approximately 5 km
Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Accommodation: Karanga Camp

5

Day

Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

Today you continue your ascent through the alpine desert zone toward Barafu Camp, your final base camp before the summit attempt. The landscape becomes increasingly rocky and exposed, with dramatic views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding mountain terrain. Upon arrival at camp, you will have an early dinner and rest. Your guide will provide a detailed summit briefing, explain the overnight climb, and ensure all equipment is ready for the journey to Uhuru Peak.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours

6

Day

Around midnight, you will begin your summit climb under a sky full of stars. The trail is steep and challenging as you make your way to Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is a truly unforgettable moment with breathtaking views above the clouds. After celebrating and taking photos, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
