Day

Arrival in Tanzania & Transfer to Moshi

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly welcomed by your mountain guide and transferred to Moshi for your overnight stay. After check-in at the hotel, you will have time to relax and recover from your journey. Later in the day, your guide will conduct a detailed Kilimanjaro climbing briefing, including a gear check and an overview of the Machame Route. This is an opportunity to ask questions and ensure you are fully prepared for your climb to Africa's highest peak.

Day

Nalemoru Gate (Rongai Gate) → Simba Camp

After breakfast, you will drive to Nalemoru Gate (Rongai Gate) for registration and permit formalities before starting your climb. The trail begins through peaceful pine forest and farmland areas on the northern side of Kilimanjaro. This section is quiet and less crowded compared to other routes. You will gradually ascend while enjoying views of the Kenyan plains and forest wildlife before reaching Simba Camp.

Day

Simba Camp → Second Cave Camp

Today’s hike continues through heath and moorland zones with increasing views of the mountain landscape. The trail is gentle and offers good acclimatization while you enjoy open views of Kibo Peak. You may spot unique vegetation such as giant lobelias and senecios along the way. The day ends at Second Cave Camp, a scenic resting point with wide mountain views.

Day

Second Cave Camp → Kikelewa Camp

After breakfast, you continue trekking deeper into the mountain through alpine moorland. The landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic with fewer trees and more open terrain. You will enjoy excellent views of Mawenzi Peak as you approach Kikelewa Camp. This is a quiet and sheltered campsite, perfect for rest and acclimatization.

Day

Kikelewa Camp → Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Today’s hike is steeper as you ascend toward Mawenzi Tarn, one of the most beautiful camps on Kilimanjaro. The scenery becomes more dramatic with rocky slopes and striking views of Mawenzi Peak. Upon arrival, you will have time to relax, explore the surroundings, and enjoy your lunch near the tarn (mountain lake). This is an important acclimatization stop before moving higher.

Day

Mawenzi Tarn Camp → Kibo Hut

After breakfast, you leave Mawenzi Tarn and cross the “Saddle,” a wide desert-like plateau between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The terrain is dry, open, and exposed, giving a true high-altitude mountain experience. As you approach Kibo Hut, the air becomes thinner, and your guide will prepare you for the midnight summit attempt.

Day

Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak → Horombo Hut

Around midnight, you begin your summit attempt under cold and starry skies. The climb is steep and challenging as you ascend to Gilman’s Point and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photos at the summit, you descend back to Kibo Hut for rest and then continue down to Horombo Hut for overnight stay.

Day

Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate → Moshi

After breakfast, you begin your final descent through moorland and lush rainforest to Marangu Gate. Along the way, you can enjoy your last views of Kilimanjaro’s beautiful ecosystem. At the gate, you will receive your summit certificate after completing park formalities. You will then be transferred back to Moshi for celebration and relaxation.

Departure Day

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight. If you wish, you can extend your trip with a Tanzania safari, Zanzibar beach holiday, or cultural tours. Our team will assist with any additional arrangements.

Important Climbing Information

  • By default, our Kilimanjaro climbing packages include shared accommodation in twin or double rooms before and after the trek. Single rooms are available at an additional cost.

  • Hotels in Moshi usually include breakfast only, unless stated otherwise in your itinerary.

  • During the climb, all meals on the mountain are included and freshly prepared by our mountain chef.

  • On Mount Kilimanjaro, accommodation is in quality camping tents equipped for high-altitude trekking. Our mountain crew sets up and manages the camp at each overnight stop.

  • Weather conditions can vary greatly, from warm rainforest temperatures to freezing conditions near the summit. Proper clothing and equipment are essential.

  • For your safety, every climb includes experienced mountain guides, daily health checks, pulse oximeter monitoring, and emergency oxygen.
