Accommodation: Lammama Hotel, Moshi

2

Day

Machame Gate → Machame Camp

After breakfast, you will drive to Machame Gate (1,800m) for registration and permit processing before starting your climb. The trek begins through lush rainforest filled with giant trees, hanging moss, and rich wildlife such as Colobus monkeys and colorful birds. The trail is muddy and scenic, offering your first real experience of Kilimanjaro’s natural beauty. As you climb steadily, your guides will explain plants, wildlife, and trekking safety. You will arrive at Machame Camp where your crew will set up tents and prepare a hot meal for your first night on the mountain.

Altitude: 1,800m – 3,000m
Hiking distance: ~11 km
Hiking time: 5–7 hours
Accommodation: Machame Camp

3

Day

Machame Camp → Shira Camp

Today you leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone, where vegetation becomes shorter and the views open up. The trail becomes steeper in sections as you gain altitude toward the Shira Plateau. You will enjoy wide views of Kibo Peak and surrounding valleys. This is a key acclimatization day as your body adjusts to higher elevation. Upon arrival at Shira Camp, you can rest, enjoy dinner, and watch the sunset over the mountain landscape.

Altitude: 3,000m – 3,840m
Hiking distance: ~5 km
Hiking time: 4–6 hours
Accommodation: Shira Camp

4

Day

Shira Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

After breakfast, you will continue your ascent across the alpine desert zone towards Lava Tower (4,600m), an important acclimatization point on the Machame Route. The trail offers dramatic volcanic landscapes and wide open views of the mountain. After lunch at Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp following the "climb high, sleep low" principle, which helps your body adjust to altitude and improves summit success. The descent into Barranco Valley is scenic, with views of the famous Barranco Wall ahead.

Altitude: 3,840m – 4,600m – 3,960m

Hiking distance: Approximately 10–12 km

Hiking time: 6–8 hours

Accommodation: Barranco Camp

5

Day

Barranco Camp → Barafu Camp

After breakfast, you begin the climb up the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical section that requires some scrambling. Once at the top, you are rewarded with incredible views of glaciers and valleys. The trail then continues through alpine desert terrain with rocky paths and open landscapes as you head to Barafu Camp. This is your final base camp before summit night. Your guide will give a full briefing, and you will rest early for the midnight ascent.

Altitude: 3,960m – 4,673m
Hiking distance: ~8 km
Hiking time: 7–8 hours
Accommodation: Barafu Camp

6

Day

Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp

Around midnight, you will begin your summit climb under a sky full of stars. The trail is steep and challenging as you make your way to Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is a truly unforgettable moment with breathtaking views above the clouds. After celebrating and taking photos, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Altitude: 4,673m – 5,895m – 3,100m

Hiking distance: Approximately 17–19 km

Hiking time: 10–14 hours

Accommodation: Mweka Camp

7

Day

Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi

After breakfast, you will descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Along the way, you can enjoy the final views of Kilimanjaro’s forest ecosystem. At the gate, you will receive your summit certificate after completing park formalities. You will then be transferred back to Moshi, where you can relax, shower, and celebrate your successful climb.
